Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich were locked at 0-0 at half-time in their UEFA Champions League league-phase meeting at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano.
The contest has so far matched the billing, with both sides tactically disciplined and determined to avoid giving their opponents any openings. It has been a cagey but lively first half, with the teams largely cancelling each other out in midfield.
Bayern have enjoyed the greater share of possession, but their control has produced little threat. Harry Kane has been kept quiet by Atletico’s strong defensive partnership of Robin Le Normand and Hancko, while Bayern also handed a surprise start to young midfielder Tom Bischof.
Neither defensive block has been breached, leaving the tie finely balanced ahead of the second half. Atletico’s Julian Alvarez and Bayern’s Michael Olise will need to make their attacks more incisive if either side is to take control of the match.
