ASEC Mimosas talent Vaboué Doumbia joins FC Nordsjælland until 2031

Ivory Coast youth international Vaboué Doumbia has taken a major step in his development after completing a move from ASEC Mimosas to Danish club FC Nordsjælland.

The 18-year-old right-back has signed a long-term contract that will keep him at the Danish side until the summer of 2031, bringing an end to his time with one of Africa’s most successful talent-producing clubs.

The transfer, completed on 22 June, marks Doumbia’s first move to European football and represents another example of a young African talent earning an opportunity on the international stage.

FC Nordsjælland confirmed the agreement after securing the services of the defender, who arrives from ASEC Mimosas following his release from his contract with the Ivorian club.

For Doumbia, the move is the latest reward for a rapid rise that has seen him establish himself as one of the promising young defenders in Ivorian football.

The teenager developed through the renowned MimoSifcom Academy, the youth system associated with ASEC Mimosas that has produced numerous players who have gone on to enjoy successful professional careers both in Africa and Europe.

His performances for club and country have attracted increasing attention over the past year.

Doumbia impressed with Ivory Coast’s Under-17 national team during a period that included appearances at the U17 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2025 FIFA U17 World Cup.

The defender played a significant role in Ivory Coast’s campaign at the continental tournament, where the team secured a bronze medal. He also featured prominently on the global stage, starting every match for the Young Elephants during the U17 World Cup in Qatar.

His consistency at youth international level helped strengthen his reputation as one of the country’s emerging talents and paved the way for interest from abroad.

In total, Doumbia has represented the Ivory Coast Under-17 side on 11 occasions, gaining valuable experience against some of the best young players from across Africa and the world.

His destination is also notable. FC Nordsjælland has built a reputation for identifying and developing young talent, making it an attractive environment for players seeking a pathway into European football.

The Danish club has become known for providing opportunities to emerging players and helping them progress within the European game.

For Ivory Coast, Doumbia’s transfer continues a long tradition of young footballers leaving the country’s academies to pursue careers abroad.

The move also highlights the growing influence of Ivorian youth development structures, particularly ASEC Mimosas, whose academy remains one of the most respected talent factories on the continent.

While Doumbia’s immediate challenge will be adapting to a new country, league and culture, the long-term nature of his contract suggests that FC Nordsjælland views him as a player with significant potential.

At just 18 years old, the defender now has the opportunity to continue his development in Europe while aiming to build on his achievements with Ivory Coast’s youth teams.
