AS FAR Rabat secure CAF Confederation Cup group-stage place with late winner

AS FAR Rabat booked their place in the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup after beating CO de Korhogo in a tense second leg at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat on Sunday.

The tie had been goalless after the first leg, but AS FAR moved ahead when Youssef Al Fahli converted a penalty in the sixth minute. The early goal gave the Moroccan side the advantage in the two-match contest and appeared to put them in control.

CO de Korhogo, however, restored hope in the 54th minute by finding an equaliser. The goal left AS FAR temporarily facing the prospect of elimination and increased the pressure on the home side as the match entered its final stages.

With qualification beginning to look as though it might slip away, AS FAR finally found the decisive breakthrough in the 83rd minute. Anas Bach scored to put the Military back in front and bring relief to the supporters inside the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium.

The hosts held on to their lead until the final whistle, completing a narrow aggregate victory and confirming their qualification for the group stage.

AS FAR can now turn their attention to the next phase of the competition after being pushed all the way by an Ivorian side that caused them serious problems across the tie.
