AS FAR open talks with Portuguese coach Pedro Gonçalves to replace Alexandre Santos

Moroccan giants AS FAR have opened discussions with Portuguese coach Pedro Gonçalves as they continue their search for a new head coach following the departure of Alexandre Santos.

The Rabat-based club are exploring the possibility of appointing Gonçalves, who has built a strong reputation across African football through his previous spells with the Angola national team and Tanzanian champions Young Africans (Yanga).

The Portuguese tactician is widely regarded as one of the continent’s experienced coaches, having guided Angola through a period of steady progress while earning praise for his tactical organisation and player development.

His familiarity with African football and success at both club and international level have made him an attractive candidate as AS FAR seek a coach capable of leading the club into a new era.

The Moroccan side are eager to appoint a successor to Santos as quickly as possible ahead of the new season, with preparations already underway for both domestic and continental competitions.

AS FAR remain determined to challenge for major honours and believe the appointment of an experienced coach will be crucial to achieving their ambitions.

Negotiations between the club and Gonçalves are continuing, although no agreement has yet been reached.

Further talks are expected in the coming days as AS FAR assess their options before making a final decision on who will lead the team into the 2026/27 campaign.
