Real Oviedo sporting director David Fernández has dismissed speculation over the future of Egyptian winger Haitham Hassan, insisting the Spanish club remains in full control of the player’s situation despite growing interest from Scottish champions Celtic.
Hassan has emerged as one of the standout names of the summer transfer window following his impressive performances at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he caught the eye with a series of outstanding displays despite Egypt’s Round of 16 exit.
Celtic have been strongly linked with the 23-year-old, whose reported release clause has dropped from £16 million to £10 million, making him an attractive target for several European clubs.
However, Real Oviedo have made it clear they are unwilling to sell the winger for less than his valuation, having reportedly rejected an opening £3.4 million bid from the Scottish side.
Fernández outlines Oviedo’s stance
Speaking to the Glasgow Times, Fernández stressed that any decision regarding Hassan’s future will remain firmly in the hands of the club.
“One of the main reasons for my coming was to communicate directly with the owners, as I participated in making all the decisions that were made,” Fernández said.
The sporting director also reiterated Oviedo’s determination to protect their most valuable players.
“Haitham Hassan belongs to Real Oviedo, and we will adopt a strict policy regarding player acquisitions and managing departures.”
World Cup boosts Hassan’s value
Hassan enjoyed an impressive 2025/26 season with Real Oviedo, making 37 appearances across all competitions and scoring three goals.
His reputation rose significantly during the World Cup, where his pace, creativity and ability to unsettle defenders made him one of Egypt’s standout performers.
With interest in the winger continuing to grow, Real Oviedo’s latest comments underline their intention to keep hold of Hassan unless a club is prepared to meet the reported £10 million release clause during the current transfer window.
