Mikel Arteta recorded the 150th win of his managerial career as reigning champions Arsenal opened the new Premier League season with a convincing 3-0 victory over Coventry at home.
The milestone came in Arteta’s 249th match as a manager, placing him among the fastest managers to reach 150 Premier League victories. Only four managers had achieved the feat in fewer matches before the Arsenal boss matched the landmark.
Arteta’s record now stands behind some of the most successful managers in Premier League history. Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola reached 150 wins in 204 matches, while former Chelsea and Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho needed 231 games.
Jurgen Klopp achieved the same total in 237 matches during his time in charge of Liverpool. Sir Alex Ferguson, who led Manchester United to multiple Premier League titles, reached 150 victories in 247 matches.
Arteta’s total of 249 games leaves him fifth on the list, only two matches behind Ferguson’s record for reaching the milestone.
The achievement came on the opening day of the new Premier League campaign, with Arsenal making an emphatic start to their title defence. Their 3-0 home victory over Coventry provided the result that carried Arteta to the 150-win mark.
The Arsenal manager has therefore reached the figure more quickly than all but four managers previously. His position on the list reflects the consistency of Arsenal’s results during his managerial career, while the victory also gave the reigning champions an ideal beginning to the new season.
