Angola: Petro de Luanda win fifth straight Girabola title

Petro de Luanda have been crowned champions of Angola once again, securing their fifth consecutive Girabola title and extending their record to 20 league triumphs.

The title was confirmed following a 3-0 victory over Lunda Sul on Wednesday, a result that underlined the club’s dominance throughout the campaign.

The win ensured Petro de Luanda finished the season with 63 points from 25 matches, comfortably ahead of their rivals.

The achievement marks another milestone in what has been a sustained period of success for the Luanda-based side.

Their latest triumph continues a run of five straight league titles, reinforcing their position as the dominant force in Angolan domestic football.

Since the Girabola’s inception in 1979, few clubs have managed to maintain such consistency at the top. Petro de Luanda now sit firmly at the summit of the all-time winners list, ahead of long-time rivals Primeiro de Agosto, who have 13 titles.

By winning the championship, Petro de Luanda have also secured qualification for the next edition of the CAF Champions League, where they will once again represent Angola on the continental stage.

As celebrations begin, attention will now turn to whether the club can extend their dominance even further and continue their remarkable run in the seasons ahead.
