The 30-year-old spent the last campaign on loan in Turkey, where he impressed enough to convince Trabzonspor to explore the possibility of keeping him beyond his current deal.
Manchester United’s immediate plan, however, is for Onana to return to the squad and take part in pre-season training under Michael Carrick.
That return, though, may only mark a temporary step in an ongoing transfer situation that is yet to be fully settled.
Trabzonspor, satisfied with the goalkeeper’s performances during his spell in the Turkish league, are keen to extend his stay and are preparing to open discussions with Manchester United over a potential new loan arrangement.
