Malian international Aliou Dieng has officially brought an end to his successful seven-year spell at Al Ahly SC after the expiration of his contract, with the midfielder now expected to continue his career in Spain with Valencia.
Dieng leaves the Egyptian giants as one of the club’s most influential players of the modern era, having played a central role in a period of sustained domestic and continental success.
The 26-year-old established himself as a key figure in Al Ahly’s midfield following his arrival in Cairo and went on to help the club secure numerous trophies while earning a reputation as one of Africa’s most consistent midfielders.
In an emotional farewell message, Dieng reflected on the impact Al Ahly and Egypt have had on both his professional and personal life.
“Al Ahly, the fans and Egypt have been my home for the past seven years,” Dieng said.
“I arrived as a kid and I am now leaving as a man, a father, a husband and a very fulfilled player on the pitch.”
The Mali international revealed that his ambitions were fully realised during his time with the club, highlighting the honour of captaining one of Africa’s most successful teams.
“I lived out my dreams and achieved everything I came here to accomplish. It was an honour to wear the captain’s armband for this team,” he added.
Dieng also paid tribute to his teammates, coaches, club officials and supporters, acknowledging the collective effort behind the remarkable achievements recorded during his tenure.
“Together as a team and a family, with the Ahly fans, we achieved special things, broke records and made history,” he said.
The midfielder reserved special thanks for club president Mahmoud El Khatib, former sporting director Sayed Abdel Hafiz, members of the technical staff and the supporters who backed him throughout his journey.
As he prepares for a new challenge in European football, Dieng admitted that leaving the club would be an emotional moment.
“Now it is time for a new challenge and a new chapter in my career. I leave with great gratitude and beautiful memories,” he said.
“I will miss the club, the fans and the country forever. They will always stay with me.”
Dieng’s expected move to Valencia represents a significant step in his career and offers him the opportunity to test himself in one of Europe’s top leagues.
