Como winger Alieu Fadera has joined Cagliari on loan for the remainder of the season, with the Sardinian club holding an option to make the transfer permanent.
The move was confirmed by Como on Tuesday evening after Cagliari improved on a proposal from Lecce and completed a deal for the Gambia international.
Fadera, who turns 25 in November, had been in talks with Lecce for some time. However, Cagliari moved decisively on Monday, strengthening their offer and also persuading the player to choose their proposal.
The versatile forward can operate on either flank or in a more central trequartista position. His ability to play across the attacking line gives Cagliari another option as they look to strengthen their squad for the remainder of the current campaign.
Como signed Fadera from KRC Genk for €6m in the summer of 2024. His time at the club has been disrupted by injury problems, limiting his opportunities since arriving in Italy.
He spent last season on loan at Sassuolo, making 30 appearances across Serie A and the Coppa Italia. During that spell, he scored two goals and contributed two assists.
Sassuolo had an option to sign Fadera permanently for €10m at the end of the loan. That clause was not exercised by the Neroverdi, allowing the player to return to Como before moving on again this season.
The latest agreement means Fadera will now continue his career with Cagliari, who have the opportunity to secure his services on a permanent basis at the end of the season. No details were given on the value of the option included in the deal.
For Como, the agreement provides Fadera with another opportunity for regular first-team football after an injury-affected period and his previous loan spell at Sassuolo. For Cagliari, it offers the chance to assess the winger over the course of the campaign before deciding whether to complete a permanent transfer.
