Algeria begin World Cup preparations with Turin training camp

Algeria national football team have assembled in Turin, Italy, to begin a preparatory training camp as part of their build-up to the 2026 World Cup.

The squad, commonly known as the “Greens”, arrived in the Italian city ahead of a series of training sessions and two international friendlies designed to assess the team’s readiness for upcoming competitions.

According to the Algerian Football Federation, all selected players have reported to camp after completing their club commitments. This has allowed head coach Vladimir Petkovic to begin preparations with a full squad at his disposal.

Petkovic has named a 27-man squad for the training camp, with the aim of evaluating as many players as possible. The coach is expected to use the upcoming fixtures to test combinations and assess individual performances as he shapes his team ahead of major tournaments.

Algeria will play their first friendly against Guatemala national football team on March 27 at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris in Genoa. The second match will see them face Uruguay national football team on March 31 at the Allianz Stadium.

The clash against Uruguay is expected to be a particularly demanding test, with the South American side featuring high-profile players including Federico Valverde.

The Algerian technical team views the camp as a key opportunity to fine-tune tactical approaches and build cohesion within the squad. With the World Cup on the horizon, the focus is on developing a balanced and competitive group capable of meeting the challenges ahead.

These fixtures form an important part of Algeria’s broader preparation strategy, offering the coaching staff valuable insight into the team’s progress while allowing players to stake their claim for a place in future squads.

As preparations intensify, Petkovic and his staff will be looking to use the Turin camp to lay the groundwork for a strong showing on the international stage, with the ultimate aim of representing the nation with distinction at the 2026 World Cup.
