AS FAR head coach Alexandre Santos has called on his players and supporters to believe in a dramatic comeback as the Moroccan giants prepare to host Mamelodi Sundowns in the decisive second leg of the CAF Champions League Final on Sunday in Rabat.
Trailing after the first leg in Pretoria, AS FAR face a difficult challenge at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, where a packed crowd is expected to drive the Moroccan side in their pursuit of a first continental title since 1985.
Speaking ahead of the showdown, Santos expressed confidence that his side can overturn the deficit and deliver a memorable performance on home soil.
“The most important thing is that we go to our home confident of getting the result and scoring the goals to win the title and fight until the end. We know we have our fans and our style of play, and anything is possible,” he said.
The Portuguese tactician stressed that his players fully understand the importance of the occasion and the opportunity that stands before them against an experienced Sundowns side.
“All the players in the team realise that we have a real opportunity to face Sundowns and achieve what we want, which is to score, turn the result around and snatch the title. That is the most important thing,” Santos added.
The coach also paid tribute to the club’s supporters, who are expected to create an intimidating atmosphere in Rabat as AS FAR attempt to produce a famous continental comeback.
“I say to our loyal fans, thank you for your continued support in all circumstances. You are our true source of strength, and we promise that we will fight with spirit and responsibility to make you happy and honour the Royal Army jersey.”
Sunday’s encounter will decide the destination of African club football’s biggest prize, with kick-off scheduled for 19:00 GMT at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.
