Al Nassr open title defence with landmark win in Saudi Pro League

Al Nassr began their defence of the Saudi Pro League title with a 3-0 victory over Al Fateh on Saturday, securing a historic milestone in the competition in the process.

The result gave “The Global” their first three points of the new campaign and marked their 300th victory in the history of the Saudi Pro League, according to football statistics provider Opta.

Al Nassr are only the second club to reach that total since the professional league was established. Their achievement places them behind Al Hilal, who lead the competition’s all-time wins list with 355 victories.

The landmark success came at an ideal moment for Al Nassr, who launched their attempt to retain the league title with a commanding performance against Al Fateh. It was also the team’s first competitive appearance under Australian manager Ange Postecoglou.

Reaching 300 wins adds another significant entry to Al Nassr’s record in the Saudi Pro League. The milestone was achieved at the start of a season in which the club are seeking to keep hold of the championship while continuing to set new benchmarks in the competition.

The victory also allowed Al Nassr to close the gap on Al Hilal in the historical standings for league wins. Although Al Hilal remain clear at the top with 355, Al Nassr’s total confirms their position as one of the leading clubs in Saudi Arabian football.

For Al Nassr, the achievement combines an important statistical landmark with a successful opening to their title defence. The 3-0 result over Al Fateh ensured that Postecoglou’s first official match in charge ended with maximum points, while the club moved into a small group of teams to have recorded at least 300 wins in the Saudi Pro League.

The club’s latest milestone reflects their long-standing influence on the competition and places them alongside Al Hilal as the only two sides to have reached the figure. Their immediate priority, however, is to build on the opening victory and maintain their challenge for another league title.

The 300th win therefore carries significance beyond the result itself. It marks Al Nassr’s continued pursuit of Al Hilal at the top of the league’s historical records and provides a strong statistical beginning to a campaign they hope will end with the championship retained.
