Tunisian winger Mohamed Al-Dhaoui Christo remains under contract with Al Ahly despite reports suggesting that his relationship with the Egyptian champions has officially ended, WinWin has learned.
The 22-year-old is expected to leave the Cairo-based club during the January 2027 transfer window, with Al Ahly’s football management working towards an amicable agreement to bring his spell at the club to an end.
However, no final agreement has been reached between the two parties, meaning Christo remains an Al Ahly player despite being excluded from the first team’s plans for the 2026-2027 season.
The former Etoile du Sahel player has not been registered in the club’s domestic squad for the current campaign, raising questions about his future and fuelling speculation that his contract had already been terminated.
Sources close to the situation have now clarified that the contractual relationship between the player and Al Ahly remains intact.
Christo’s contract with Al Ahly remains active
Private sources told WinWin that Christo has not reached an agreement with Al Ahly to end his contract, contrary to reports circulating about his departure from the club.
The company responsible for managing the Tunisian winger’s career also addressed the situation in exclusive statements to WinWin, confirming that his contract remains valid.
It explained that the player’s absence from group training sessions in recent months was not connected to a breakdown in his relationship with the club.
Instead, Christo has been following a medical treatment and rehabilitation programme under the supervision of Al Ahly’s medical department.
The company also dismissed suggestions that the player had stopped attending the club or failed to fulfil his contractual responsibilities.
According to the explanation provided, his current situation is related to his recovery from surgery rather than an official separation from the Egyptian side.
Christo’s contract with Al Ahly runs until the end of 2027, meaning the club must reach an agreement with him before bringing the relationship to an early conclusion.
Surgery explains Christo’s absence from training
The Tunisian winger’s absence from regular training has been linked to an operation he underwent to treat a hernia.
The procedure kept him away from normal football activities for a period, after which he began a rehabilitation programme at the club’s facilities.
The programme was designed to help him recover his physical condition following surgery, with a physical therapist assisting him throughout the process.
The company representing Christo confirmed that he continued to follow the arrangements established for his recovery and remained in contact with the club during that period.
His absence from collective training sessions therefore should not be interpreted as evidence that his contract has been terminated.
Despite his limited involvement with the first team, the player remains registered as an Al Ahly employee under the existing contractual agreement, which is scheduled to expire at the end of 2027.
Al Ahly targets January agreement with Christo
Meanwhile, Al Ahly’s management is preparing to resolve the situation before the opening of the January 2027 transfer window.
The club does not consider Christo part of its technical plans for the current season, while his absence from the domestic squad has further complicated his position within the team.
As a result, the football management wants to negotiate an amicable settlement that would allow both parties to end their contractual relationship without further complications.
However, the financial and contractual commitments attached to the agreement remain important considerations in the discussions.
Al Ahly are therefore looking to reach an arrangement that takes into account the obligations owed to the player while providing a clear solution to his future.
Until an agreement is finalised, Christo will continue to be bound by his existing contract, despite the club’s intention to part ways with him.
The Tunisian winger joined Al Ahly from Etoile du Sahel during the January 2023 transfer window, but his future in Cairo now appears increasingly uncertain as the club prepares to make a decision ahead of the second half of the season.
