Al Ahly have announced the departure of women’s first-team coach Dimitri Lubov after reaching a mutual agreement to terminate his contract.
The decision was confirmed by the club’s board of directors, headed by Mahmoud Al-Khatib, following the conclusion of the current Egyptian women’s league season.
According to a statement published on Al Ahly’s official website, the club thanked Lubov for his work with the women’s side during his spell in charge.
The statement added that all financial and administrative matters linked to the coach’s departure had been resolved in a manner that protected the rights of both parties.
“The contract was terminated by mutual consent, after settling all financial and administrative matters, in a manner that preserves the rights of both parties,” the club said.
Lubov had been appointed head coach of Al Ahly’s women’s football team in 2024 as part of the club’s efforts to strengthen its presence in women’s football.
His departure comes shortly after the team narrowly missed out on the league title in dramatic fashion.
Al Ahly completed the season in second place with 68 points, level with champions Masar FC.
However, Masar secured the title due to a superior goal difference, denying Al Ahly the championship despite the two teams finishing level on points.
The close outcome underlined the competitive nature of the season and highlighted the progress made by Al Ahly under Lubov’s leadership.
Although the club did not provide further details regarding the reasons behind the decision, the announcement signals the end of a relatively short but notable period for the French coach at the Cairo side.
The move also comes at a time when Al Ahly continue to make broader structural and sporting decisions across different departments within the club.
Attention now turns to who will replace Lubov ahead of the next campaign as Al Ahly seek to build on a season in which they came within touching distance of the league title.
The club has increasingly invested in women’s football in recent years, aiming to establish itself among the leading teams in Egypt and African women’s football.
Finishing second with the same number of points as the champions is likely to be viewed internally as evidence that the team is capable of competing consistently at the top level.
Lubov’s tenure therefore ends after overseeing a campaign that brought Al Ahly close to silverware but ultimately ended in disappointment due to goal difference.
The club’s statement emphasised that the separation took place amicably, with both sides resolving contractual obligations before officially ending the partnership.
No announcement has yet been made regarding the identity of the next coach or the future direction of the women’s team.
For now, Al Ahly supporters will reflect on a season that showed signs of progress but ended with the club narrowly missing out on the title race in one of the closest finishes of the campaign.
