Egypt international Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet is on the verge of leaving Al Ahly SC, with a club source saying the winger is determined to complete a move to Saudi Arabian side Al-Riyadh SC during the current summer transfer window.
According to the source, Trezeguet has made it clear that he does not wish to continue his spell with Al Ahly after spending just one season back at the club following a lengthy career in European football. The development comes after his most recent appearance with Egypt at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The source said the player is now focused on completing his proposed move to Saudi Arabia and is willing to make financial concessions in order to ensure the transfer proceeds.
Source says player has made his decision
In private comments, the source described Trezeguet’s position as final, stating:
“Trezeguet is determined to leave Al-Ahly for Al-Riyadh Saudi.”
The remarks suggest the player’s preference is firmly set on joining the Saudi club, with discussions now centred on the practicalities of completing the move.
The source added that the most likely scenario involves the player giving up all of his outstanding financial entitlements to facilitate his departure from Al Ahly.
If implemented, that arrangement would allow the transfer to be finalised without further financial complications between the player and the club.
Financial settlement could pave the way
The source indicated that Trezeguet’s complete waiver of his financial dues is expected to be the formula adopted to conclude the transfer.
Such a move would remove one of the remaining obstacles to his departure and could accelerate the completion of the deal in the coming hours.
According to the information provided, Al-Riyadh have already submitted an offer for the Egyptian international, with his exit from Al Ahly now described as imminent.
Despite spending only one campaign with the Cairo club after returning from Europe, Trezeguet reportedly impressed during the season, making his expected departure a significant development for the squad.
Challenging campaign for Al Ahly
Trezeguet’s anticipated exit follows a difficult season for Al Ahly.
The club finished the campaign without winning the Egyptian league title, which was claimed by Zamalek SC. Al Ahly also ended the league season in third place.
Their domestic disappointment was compounded by elimination from the Egypt Cup, while they were also unable to secure the CAF Champions League title.
The continental trophy was eventually won by Mamelodi Sundowns FC, leaving Al Ahly without major silverware during the season.
Transfer expected to be completed soon
With the summer transfer window underway, attention is now focused on whether the proposed move to Al-Riyadh will be finalised.
According to the club source, Trezeguet has already reached a firm decision regarding his future, while the expected waiver of his financial entitlements could clear the final hurdle to completing the transfer.
Should the move go ahead, the Egyptian international would bring his second spell at Al Ahly to an end after just one season, closing a brief chapter that followed his return from European football and his latest appearance with the national team at the 2026 World Cup.
