Egyptian giants Al Ahly are working to resolve several major squad issues ahead of their crucial Egyptian Premier League encounter against Al Masry, with contract renewals and player departures dominating discussions behind the scenes.
The Cairo club are preparing for Wednesday’s decisive league fixture while simultaneously attempting to bring stability to the squad before the end of the season.
Mostafa Shobeir set for improved contract
Al Ahly officials have reportedly decided to move forward with a contract renewal for goalkeeper Mostafa Shobeir following his impressive performances over the past season.
The young shot-stopper has established himself as one of the club’s standout performers and recently earned recognition at international level with the Egypt national team.
According to reports, Al Ahly are prepared to significantly increase Shobeir’s salary to around 25 million Egyptian pounds per season, placing him among the club’s top earners.
A final meeting is expected in the coming days to complete the renewal agreement.
Club officials are also determined to keep the goalkeeper at the club and are not considering either a permanent transfer or a loan move.
Hussein El Shahat renewal talks hit obstacle
Negotiations with experienced winger Hussein El Shahat remain more complicated.
Al Ahly are keen to extend the player’s stay, but financial demands have become the main issue slowing discussions.
El Shahat is reportedly requesting a two-year contract worth 70 million Egyptian pounds and wants the removal of participation-based clauses from the agreement.
The club, however, have countered with an offer worth 50 million Egyptian pounds over the same period.
Sources suggest the winger views the next contract as the final major deal of his career and is also attracting interest from other clubs willing to offer improved financial terms.
Aliou Dieng heads expected departures
Meanwhile, Aliou Dieng is expected to headline Al Ahly’s list of departures after reportedly signing for Valencia CF ahead of the summer transfer window.
Several loan players are also set to leave permanently once their temporary deals expire, including Yelsen Camoués, Marwan Osman and Ahmed Ramadan Beckham.
The future of Tunisian midfielder Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane remains uncertain, with no final decision yet made regarding whether he will stay at the club next season.
With domestic and continental ambitions still at stake, Al Ahly are aiming to settle these off-field matters quickly as they prepare for another demanding campaign.
