Al Ahly deny EFA approval claims over match recordings

Egyptian giants Al Ahly SC have firmly denied reports that the Egyptian Football Association granted them approval to review recordings from a recent domestic fixture, insisting no such communication has been received.

The Cairo-based club issued the clarification amid growing speculation that the EFA had sent an official letter authorising a new session to examine the footage, reportedly involving a delegation led by board member Sayed Abdel-Hafiz.

However, a source within Al Ahly dismissed those claims entirely, describing the reports as false and misleading.

“All the talk about receiving an official letter… is completely untrue and did not happen at all, and we will continue with the escalation steps in the coming days,” the source said.

The response highlights ongoing tensions between the club and the federation, with the dispute showing no signs of resolution.

Disputed Access

At the centre of the disagreement is Al Ahly’s request to access recordings from their recent match against Ceramica Cleopatra FC.

The club had sought to review the material as part of its internal evaluation process, prompting a formal visit to the EFA headquarters in Cairo.

A delegation led by Abdel-Hafiz travelled to the federation’s offices last Sunday in an attempt to obtain the recordings.

However, the request was denied.

According to the EFA, the representatives present did not possess the required official identification credentials, preventing them from authorising access to the footage.

Standoff Continues

The rejection added another layer of friction to an already sensitive situation, with Al Ahly now challenging both the decision itself and the narrative that followed.

While initial reports suggested a breakthrough could be imminent, the club’s latest stance indicates the opposite.

Instead of de-escalation, Al Ahly are preparing to intensify the situation.

The mention of “escalation steps” suggests the possibility of formal complaints or further action through official channels, though the club has yet to outline its next move in detail.

What Next?

For now, the matter remains unresolved, with conflicting accounts from both sides and no official response yet from the federation addressing the club’s latest claims.

As the situation develops, the focus will remain on how both parties navigate the dispute one that raises broader questions around transparency, governance, and procedural clarity in Egyptian football.
