Al Ahli join AS Roma in pursuit of Franco-Cameroonian talent Jean-Mattéo Bahoya

Saudi Pro League side Al Ahli have entered the race to sign Eintracht Frankfurt winger Jean-Mattéo Bahoya, adding fresh competition for one of African football’s emerging Francophone talents ahead of the closing stages of the transfer window.

The 21-year-old Franco-Cameroonian has attracted growing interest following an impressive season in Germany, with several European clubs monitoring his progress.

According to reports, Al Ahli are preparing to make a move in the coming days as they seek to convince the attacker to continue his career in Saudi Arabia.

However, the Saudi club is not alone in pursuing the winger.

Serie A side AS Roma are also closely following Bahoya and have identified him as one of their leading alternatives to Antonio Nusa, whose reported valuation is considered too expensive.

Eintracht Frankfurt, meanwhile, are said to value Bahoya at around €30 million, reflecting his development since joining the Bundesliga outfit.

The transfer interest highlights the growing profile of the young attacker, who has already been linked with Arsenal and Tottenham in previous transfer windows.

For African football, Bahoya’s rise is another example of the growing influence of Francophone talent in Europe’s top leagues.

Born in France to a Cameroonian father and French mother, the winger holds both French and Cameroonian nationalities and continues to attract attention through his performances at club level.

Last season marked an important step in his development.

Bahoya featured in 27 Bundesliga matches for Eintracht Frankfurt, scoring three goals and providing four assists while becoming an increasingly important member of the club’s attacking rotation.

His pace, dribbling ability and versatility across both wings helped establish him as one of the Bundesliga’s most promising young forwards.

The winger began his professional career with French club Angers before earning a move to Eintracht Frankfurt, where he joined with the ambition of taking the next step in his development.

Following an initial adaptation period in Germany, Bahoya established himself in a squad regularly involved in European competition, further strengthening his reputation as a player capable of performing at the highest level.

His performances have now placed him at the centre of growing transfer speculation, with clubs from both Europe and the Middle East monitoring his situation.

Al Ahli’s interest also reflects a wider trend within the Saudi Pro League, where clubs are increasingly targeting younger players with significant long-term potential rather than focusing exclusively on established stars approaching the latter stages of their careers.

With Eintracht Frankfurt reportedly placing a €30 million valuation on the winger, negotiations could prove challenging for interested clubs, but Bahoya appears set to remain one of the most closely watched players during the final weeks of the transfer window.
