Ajax hand Moroccan teenager Imran Talai first professional contract

Ajax have confirmed that Moroccan youth international Imran Talai has signed his first professional contract with the club, marking a key milestone in the 17-year-old midfielder’s development.

The deal ties Talai to the Dutch giants until June 2029, underlining the club’s long-term commitment to one of their most promising academy prospects.

Talai, who was born in Amsterdam, has been part of Ajax’s youth system since 2016 and has progressed steadily through the club’s age groups. Last season, he featured for the Under-17 side and has now been promoted to the Under-19 squad ahead of the new campaign.

Ajax announced the signing in an official statement on Tuesday, describing the agreement as part of their continued focus on developing homegrown talent through their renowned academy structure.

Club football director Maren Boecker praised the teenager’s qualities, highlighting both his technical and physical attributes as key indicators of his potential.

He described Talai as a midfielder with strong technical ability, close control, and a powerful left foot, adding that his creativity, awareness, and ability to find space make him stand out in midfield areas. Boecker also pointed to the player’s vision and physical profile as strengths that support his long-term development.

The 17-year-old has already gained international experience at youth level, representing Morocco at the Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations. His performances at that level have further enhanced his reputation as one of the emerging talents within his age group.

Ajax, widely regarded as one of Europe’s leading clubs for youth development, are expected to continue carefully managing his progression as he transitions into higher age categories and moves closer to senior football.

The club’s academy has produced a steady stream of elite-level players in recent years, and Talai’s development will now be monitored closely as he takes the next step in that pathway.

With his first professional contract now secured, attention will turn to how quickly he can adapt to the demands of Under-19 football and continue his rise within the Ajax system.
