Former Morocco international and current Netherlands U-19 head coach Adil Ramzi has described the upcoming FIFA World Cup Round of 32 meeting between Morocco and the Netherlands as one of the most difficult fixtures of the knockout stage.
The two nations will meet on Tuesday in Mexico after Morocco finished second in Group C and the Netherlands topped Group F to book their places in the last 32.
Speaking to Hesport, Ramzi admitted he had hoped the two sides would avoid each other until the latter stages of the tournament because of their quality and potential to make deep runs.
“Honestly, I didn’t want this clash at such an early stage because both teams have all the qualities to go far in the tournament, and they could have met in later rounds,” Ramzi said.
The former Atlas Lions midfielder believes there is little to separate the two teams, highlighting the strength they possess both individually and collectively.
“I see it as a very evenly matched contest, both individually and collectively. Each team has the quality and the keys to victory,” he added.
Ramzi expects a closely fought encounter and believes the winner could build enough momentum to challenge for the latter stages of the competition.
“I expect it to be a tough match, and I believe that the team that manages to win will be able to continue its journey to the later stages,” he concluded.
The Round of 32 clash has generated significant anticipation after both sides impressed during the group stage.
Morocco enter the knockout rounds looking to extend another memorable World Cup campaign, having combined defensive organisation with attacking quality to reach the last 32.
The Netherlands, meanwhile, will rely on their experience, tactical discipline and attacking depth as they seek to maintain their status as one of Europe’s strongest contenders.
The winner will secure a place in the Round of 16 and take another step towards a potential deep run in the tournament, with both nations believing they have the quality to progress.
Morocco and the Netherlands are scheduled to meet on Tuesday at 2:00 a.m. Moroccan time in one of the standout ties of the Round of 32.
