Algeria international Adil Boulbina is on the verge of leaving Al-Duhail SC to join newly promoted Saudi Pro League side Al-Diriyah, with the transfer reportedly already at an advanced stage.
The 23-year-old forward is said to have completed his medical, with the deal expected to be worth around €13 million on a three-year contract.
Boulbina takes another step in his career
The move represents another important stage in Boulbina’s development after spells with Paradou AC and Al-Duhail.
Interestingly, when he left Paradou last year, Boulbina had indicated that he viewed Qatar as a stepping stone before eventually attempting to establish himself in European football.
A move to Saudi Arabia would therefore represent a change in direction, although the rapidly developing Saudi league could provide the Algerian with another platform to gain experience and continue developing his attacking qualities.
Strong season in Qatar
Boulbina’s performances for Al-Duhail have helped attract interest from Al-Diriyah.
Last season, the Algerian featured in 32 matches, scoring 13 goals and providing seven assists.
Those numbers highlighted his attacking effectiveness and convinced Al-Diriyah to make a significant investment in the forward.
The Saudi club, recently promoted to the top flight, see Boulbina as a player capable of strengthening their attacking options as they prepare for life in the Saudi Pro League.
For Boulbina, the move could be another step towards his long-term ambition of playing in Europe.
After Paradou, Qatar and now Saudi Arabia, the Algerian international may have to wait a little longer for his European opportunity—but his performances in Saudi Arabia could determine how soon that dream returns to the table.
