Abdoulaye Faye is close to joining Celta Vigo on loan for the 2026/27 season after Bayer Leverkusen reached an agreement in principle with the Spanish club, according to Metropolitano.
The 21-year-old Senegal international is expected to move to La Liga as he continues to build experience at the highest level. A left-footed central defender, Faye is regarded as a player with significant potential and could now take the next step in his development in Spain.
Faye joined Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2025 from Swedish club BK Hacken. He remains under contract with the German champions until June 2030, giving the club a long-term commitment to a defender it believes can develop into an important first-team player.
The proposed move to Celta Vigo would be his second successive loan spell. During the 2025/26 campaign, Faye played for FC Lorient in France, making 19 appearances for the Breton club.
That period provided the Senegalese defender with valuable playing time in a demanding league and represented his first experience of French football. His regular involvement helped him continue adapting to senior football and strengthen his prospects of competing at a higher level.
Faye returned to Germany this summer and took part in Bayer Leverkusen’s pre-season preparations. He featured in two friendly matches, starting one of them, underlining the attention the club continues to pay to his progress.
However, despite being involved with the senior squad, Bayer Leverkusen’s preference is reportedly to send Faye out on loan again. The aim is to give him another sustained spell of competitive football while allowing him to develop in a demanding environment.
A move to Celta Vigo would give Faye the opportunity to experience La Liga for the first time. The Spanish top flight is recognised for its technical quality, and regular involvement in the competition would provide the defender with another test of his ability and adaptability.
For Celta Vigo, the potential arrival of a young left-footed centre-back would add another developing option to the squad. For Faye, the loan would offer the chance to gain consistency, face a new style of football and continue building the experience required to establish himself at the highest level.
Bayer Leverkusen’s longer-term objective is for Faye to return to Germany as a more mature defender, better equipped to compete for a permanent place in the club’s squad. While the agreement is not yet described as fully completed, the principle of the transfer has been reached and Faye is now nearing a move to Celta Vigo.
