Paris beat Rennes 4-3 in thriller featuring four penalties

Paris secured a 4-3 home victory over Rennes in the seventh round of the French championship after the referee awarded four penalties during an eventful match.

Maxime Lopez put the hosts ahead after 14 minutes, finishing to give Paris an early advantage. Rennes were level 15 minutes later when Esteban Lepaul converted the first penalty of the game.

Paris restored their lead just before half-time. Lopez struck again in the fourth minute of added time at the end of the first half to complete his double and make it 2-1.

Rennes continued to challenge after the interval and were awarded another penalty in the 74th minute. Lepaul again took responsibility from the spot and made no mistake, scoring his second goal of the match to bring the visitors level.

The match swung back in Paris’ favour only two minutes later. Lassine Sinayoko scored the hosts’ third goal, putting them 3-2 ahead.

Rennes refused to concede and equalised again late in the match after being awarded a third penalty. Lepaul completed his hat-trick by converting once more, restoring parity at 3-3.

There was still time for another decisive moment. Before the final whistle, the referee awarded a fourth penalty, this time to Paris. Sinayoko sent the effort into the net to score his second goal and secure victory for the home side.
