Mohamed Salah is reportedly delaying a decision on his next club because he wants to concentrate fully on Egypt national football team and the upcoming 2026 World Cup.
The Liverpool forward announced several weeks ago that he would leave Liverpool FC at the end of the current season, bringing an end to a successful nine-year period at Anfield.
However, despite growing speculation over his future, the 33-year-old has yet to reveal where he intends to play next.
Salah has attracted reported interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia, the United States and across Europe, but according to British newspaper The Sun, the Egyptian captain is in no rush to make a final decision.
The report states that the forward’s primary focus remains Egypt’s participation in the 2026 World Cup, which will be hosted jointly by United States, Canada and Mexico between 11 June and 19 July.
Focus on International Stage
According to the report, Salah believes that a strong World Cup campaign with Egypt could help offset what has been viewed as a decline in his individual numbers this season.
The forward scored 12 goals and provided nine assists in the Premier League campaign, figures that are lower than the exceptional standards he established during previous seasons with Liverpool.
Salah is said to view the World Cup as an opportunity to reinforce his standing on the global stage and lead Egypt through a major international tournament.
The Egyptian national team captain has long been regarded as the central figure of the national side and is expected to carry significant responsibility during the competition.
Egypt have been placed in Group G alongside Belgium national football team, Iran national football team and New Zealand national football team.
Injury Adds Further Uncertainty
Salah’s immediate focus has also been complicated by fitness concerns after the player suffered a muscle injury during the final week of April.
The Liverpool forward has not played since sustaining the injury, and no confirmed date has yet been announced for his return to action.
The uncertainty surrounding his recovery has added another layer of speculation regarding both his club future and his readiness for Egypt’s World Cup preparations.
Despite the injury setback, Salah remains one of the most influential players in African and world football, and interest in signing him is expected to remain strong once he formally departs Liverpool.
End of an Era at Liverpool
Salah’s decision to leave Liverpool will close one of the most successful chapters in the club’s recent history.
Since arriving at Anfield nine years ago, the Egyptian forward has established himself as one of Liverpool’s most important modern-era players through his goals, assists and major contributions in domestic and European competitions.
His next move is therefore being closely monitored across world football, particularly given the range of clubs reportedly interested in securing his signature.
For now, however, the report suggests Salah is prioritising international ambitions over transfer negotiations as he prepares for what could be one of the defining tournaments of his career with Egypt at the 2026 World Cup.
