Arne Slot rejects Mohamed Salah’s fears over Liverpool standards

Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has strongly dismissed suggestions that standards at the club could decline following the expected departures of several senior players, including Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah.

The Dutch manager was responding to recent comments made by Salah, who had expressed concern about Liverpool’s ability to maintain the same competitive level once key figures leave Anfield at the end of the season.

Salah, one of the central figures in Liverpool’s modern success, reportedly warned that “the level of standards will inevitably fall” after the departure of influential senior players who helped shape the club’s recent achievements. Alongside Salah, experienced names such as Andy Robertson are also expected to move on this summer, marking the beginning of a significant transition period for the Premier League club.

However, Slot appeared completely unconcerned by the prospect of rebuilding without some of Liverpool’s most established stars.

Speaking during a press conference, the Liverpool manager insisted he remains fully confident in the quality already present within the squad and believes the club is well positioned to continue competing at the highest level.

“I am not afraid that the standards will be lower next season than they were this season, or last season, or the one before. No. I am not worried. At all,” Slot said.

The manager also stressed that Liverpool’s ambitions would remain unchanged despite the departure of high-profile players, adding that he expects new signings to strengthen the team further ahead of next season.

Slot explained that maintaining standards at a club like Liverpool goes beyond reputation or seniority, suggesting the overall quality within the squad remains strong enough to sustain success.

He said he was “completely convinced” Liverpool already possessed the necessary talent to remain competitive, while future additions during the transfer window would help ensure expectations stayed “where they should be.”

The comments appeared to contain a subtle response to Salah’s remarks, particularly when Slot referenced the difference between leadership off the pitch and performances during matches.

In a pointed moment during the press conference, the Liverpool manager said standards are determined not only by professionalism and preparation, but also by what players deliver on the field.

“Do you understand me? Without me saying anything?” Slot remarked, in comments widely interpreted as a message directed toward Salah’s assessment of the club’s future.

Liverpool are now preparing for what could become one of the most significant transitions of the post-Jürgen Klopp era. The departures of Salah and other senior figures would close a chapter that delivered major domestic and European success, including Premier League and Champions League triumphs.

Salah, in particular, has become one of the defining figures of Liverpool’s modern history. The Egyptian forward played a key role in transforming the club into one of Europe’s elite sides and established himself as one of the most influential players in world football during his time at Anfield.

Yet Slot appears determined to project confidence rather than uncertainty as Liverpool prepare for a new era.

The former Feyenoord coach now faces the challenge of proving the club can remain among England’s elite without some of the players who defined its recent golden period.
