Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo has been given an eight-point penalty and fined £1,444 after driving his £160,000 Audi RSQ8 without a valid licence or insurance.
The Ecuador international was stopped near Chelsea’s training ground in Cobham, Surrey, in April 2025. He appeared at Crawley magistrates’ court this week, where the penalty was imposed.
Caicedo must now obtain the correct licence and insurance for the supercar, which has a top speed of 155mph and can accelerate from 0-60mph in 3.8 seconds.
The 24-year-old is now four points away from a driving ban. Under the rules, drivers who accumulate 12 points within three years are prohibited from driving for six months. Holders of international driving licences can use them in Britain for 12 months.
Chelsea described the seizure of the car at the time as a “personal matter”.
Caicedo joined Chelsea from Brighton in 2023 for £115m and is understood to earn £250,000 a week. He is no longer the most expensive footballer in British transfer history.
The case comes amid renewed attention on driving incidents involving Premier League players. Two Hull City players recently overturned their cars at the same location, while Daily Mail Sport’s Lewis Steele visited and drove through the area this week.
Caicedo has been limited by injury this season and has played only 14 minutes for Xabi Alonso’s side. Chelsea have missed the 65-cap international, who is among the first names on the team sheet when fit.
He was left out of Ecuador’s squad for matches against South Korea, Japan and Panama to give him the opportunity to recover fully from the persistent calf problem that has affected him.
Alonso said before the international break that Caicedo was nearing a return. The midfielder could feature in some capacity when Chelsea face Bournemouth.
