Egyptian refereeing expert Mohamed Kamal Risha supported the intervention by the video assistant referee team and said Oliveira had not been fouled.
“In the 38th minute, Oliveira, the United Arab Emirates forward, used Tambakti’s leg being positioned in front of him and went to ground without contact that warranted a penalty,” Risha told Saudi newspaper Al Riyadiya.
“The VAR intervention was correct in asking the referee to review the incident on the screen, allowing him to change his decision and cancel the penalty,” he added.
