Paris Saint-Germain have yet to submit a formal offer for Ferran Torres, despite reports in Spain that the Barcelona forward has already reached an agreement with the French club during the current summer transfer window.
According to Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo, there is currently no official proposal on Barcelona’s table for the former Valencia player. That is despite widespread speculation that Torres has agreed personal terms with Paris Saint-Germain.
Torres is expected to report for Barcelona training next Wednesday alongside the other members of the national team that won the World Cup. His possible return to the club’s training ground could become a significant factor in the developing transfer situation, with the player understood to be keen to avoid joining the session, even temporarily.
Reports from France suggest Paris Saint-Germain could be prepared to pay about 50m euros for Torres. French outlets including Onze Mondial and Le Parisien have both identified that figure as the potential price the Ligue 1 club may be willing to offer Barcelona.
Mundo Deportivo says the prevailing view in France is that there is a strong foundation for a quick agreement between the two clubs. However, the transfer cannot move forward formally until Paris Saint-Germain turns its interest into a written bid.
The French club has already contacted Barcelona to communicate its official desire to sign Torres. It now needs to make that interest concrete with an offer that Barcelona can properly assess.
Barcelona had previously made clear that Torres was not for sale while he was representing his country at the World Cup, where he ultimately became a world champion. The club’s position was that the forward, described as its only player to operate as a number nine in the area over the past two seasons following the departure of Robert Lewandowski, would only be allowed to leave if he personally requested a transfer.
Mundo Deportivo reported: “While Ferran was still playing in the World Cup, where he ended up as a world champion, Barcelona made it clear that its only striker who played as a ‘9’ in the area during the past two seasons after the departure of Robert Lewandowski was not for sale, unless the player himself requested to leave, a circumstance that would open the door to listening to offers from interested clubs.”
That condition appears to have created an opening for Paris Saint-Germain. If Torres formally indicates that he wants to leave, Barcelona would be willing to consider proposals, although no such official bid has yet arrived.
For now, the situation remains dependent on the next step from Paris Saint-Germain. The club’s reported interest is established, and a fee of around 50m euros has been suggested, but Barcelona is still waiting for the French side to submit an offer that can be evaluated as part of a potential deal.
