Wydad battle injuries before crucial clash

Wydad Athletic Club will be without two notable players when they take on Fath Union Sport in a rescheduled Botola Pro fixture, as injuries disrupt preparations for a match that also marks a managerial debut.

The encounter, originally scheduled as part of the tenth round of the Moroccan top flight, is set to be played on Friday evening at the Moulay Hassan Stadium, with kick-off at 20:00 local time. It will represent the first match in charge for new head coach Patrice Carteron, who takes over the team at a crucial stage of the season.

Wydad, currently second in the league standings with 29 points, will approach the fixture aiming to maintain pressure at the top of the table. However, their preparations have been complicated by the absence of two players who might otherwise have featured prominently.

Defender Ayoub Bouchta has been ruled out after sustaining an ankle injury during the club’s recent match against Olympique Safi. The setback leaves a gap in Wydad’s defensive options at a time when squad stability is particularly important.

Meanwhile, Abou El Fath is also unavailable, having picked up an injury in training ahead of the fixture. His absence further limits the choices available to Carteron as he prepares to select his first starting line-up since taking charge.

First match brings early challenge

The timing of these injuries presents an immediate challenge for Carteron, who will be keen to make a positive impression in his opening match. With limited time to assess his squad fully, the absence of key players adds an additional layer of complexity to his task.

Despite these setbacks, Wydad remain in a strong position in the league standings and will be expected to compete strongly against a side currently positioned in the lower half of the table.

Fath Union Sport, who sit tenth with 15 points, will view the match as an opportunity to close the gap on the teams above them. Playing at home, they may also seek to take advantage of Wydad’s injury concerns and the transitional phase under a new coach.

League context adds importance

The fixture carries significance for both sides, albeit for different reasons. For Wydad, the priority is to sustain their title challenge and adapt quickly to Carteron’s tactical approach. For FUS Rabat, the focus will be on improving their league position and securing valuable points.

The rescheduling of the match has also added to the sense of anticipation, with both teams entering the game under distinct pressures—Wydad aiming to assert continuity despite change, and FUS looking to capitalise on any instability.

Injury concerns underline squad demands

The absence of Bouchta and Abou El Fath highlights the physical demands placed on players during a congested season, where injuries can quickly alter team dynamics. For Carteron, managing these challenges will be central to his early tenure.

As Wydad take to the pitch for this rearranged fixture, attention will focus not only on the result but also on how the team responds to adversity under new leadership.
