Eintracht Frankfurt have confirmed the signing of Nigeria international Raphael Onyedika from Club Brugge, bringing an end to several weeks of speculation over the 25-year-old midfielder’s future.
The German club announced the transfer on its X account, confirming that Onyedika had agreed a five-season contract. The defensive midfielder is now tied to Eintracht Frankfurt until 30 June 2031.
Eintracht Frankfurt will pay €9m for the player, whose estimated market value is €23m according to Transfermarkt. The agreement brings to a close a long-running transfer story involving a player who had been monitored by the Bundesliga club for some time.
Onyedika joins after four seasons in Belgium with Club Brugge, where he won two league titles and one cup. His experience in European competition was also a major part of his appeal, with the 1.84m midfielder having made 24 Champions League appearances. He scored three goals and provided two assists in those matches.
The move comes despite recent interest from Saudi Arabia. Africafoot had reported exclusively on that interest, but Onyedika has instead opted to continue his career in Germany with Eintracht Frankfurt.
Before leaving Belgium, Onyedika was earning an annual salary of €677,851, equivalent to 440,603,150 CFA francs.
His arrival gives Eintracht Frankfurt a midfielder with domestic success and substantial European experience. Onyedika’s four-year spell at Club Brugge included two championship victories and a cup triumph, while his Champions League record further underlined his level at the highest level of European club football.
The deal also represents a significant financial commitment from Eintracht Frankfurt, with the €9m fee standing below the player’s Transfermarkt valuation but securing the services of a Nigeria international who had attracted interest from clubs in different markets.
Onyedika’s move to Germany means the next stage of his career will take place in the Bundesliga, following his decision to reject the latest interest from Saudi Arabia. His long-term contract, running through June 2031, reflects the importance Eintracht Frankfurt attach to the player after tracking him for an extended period.
For Club Brugge, the transfer marks the departure of a player who helped the club win three major domestic honours during his time in Belgium. For Onyedika, it is a new chapter after four seasons in which he established himself as a defensive midfielder with experience both in domestic competition and in the Champions League.
