PSG urged to sign rising Ivorian talent Coulibaly

Rising defensive talent Abdoul Karim Coulibaly has emerged as one of the most sought-after young players in European football, with several top clubs monitoring his progress following a breakthrough season in Germany.

The 18-year-old, currently playing for Werder Bremen, has attracted interest from major sides including Paris Saint-Germain, Olympique de Marseille and Arsenal FC.

Coulibaly’s rapid development has not gone unnoticed, particularly among former African stars. Ex-PSG forward Amara Diané has openly backed the young defender as a perfect fit for the French champions.

“Watching Karim play, you forget he’s only 18. Having over 20 Bundesliga matches under his belt at that age, with such a physical presence, is exceptional.

“For PSG, he’s exactly the type of player they need: a powerful player with a bright future, but already ready for the demands of Ligue 1.”

Coulibaly, who has already made more than 20 Bundesliga appearances this season, has impressed with his composure, physical strength and ability to play out from the back.

His performances have helped establish him as a key figure at Werder Bremen despite his young age.

Diané also pointed to a shift in recruitment strategy at PSG, suggesting that the club is now prioritising players with strong mentality and long-term value.

“PSG has changed its policy. They’re looking for players with a strong mentality and high resale or retention potential.

“Karim Coulibaly has that dual German-Ivorian heritage which often produces very tactically disciplined players. Establishing oneself in Paris requires character, and what he’s showing at Werder proves he’s not afraid of pressure.”

The defender’s dual eligibility for Germany and Ivory Coast adds further intrigue to his rise.

While he has already represented Germany at under-17 level, his Ivorian roots make him a player of interest for African football, particularly as the continent continues to monitor emerging talent in Europe.

Despite strong competition for his signature, Diané believes a move to Paris could provide the ideal platform for Coulibaly’s development.

“The Champions League and Luis Enrique’s playing style are magnets. For a defender who likes to play the ball out cleanly like Karim, the Parisian style is ideal.

“At 40 or 50 million euros, it’s an investment, but it’s the price to pay to secure a player who can anchor your defense for ten years.”

Currently valued at €22 million, Coulibaly has featured in 22 matches this season and scored once, underlining his growing importance at Werder Bremen.
