Alex Iwobi burglary claims dismissed as ‘made-up story’ by father

Reports claiming that Fulham and Nigeria midfielder Alex Iwobi was the victim of a burglary at his home have been dismissed as untrue, according to Nigerian outlet Soccernet.ng, who credit the midfielder’s father.

The 29-year-old footballer had been widely reported to have been threatened at knifepoint in a burglary attempt following Fulham’s 3-1 victory over Burnley at Craven Cottage on Saturday.

The alleged incident quickly gained traction online, with claims that burglars had stolen approximately £200,000 in cash along with valuables worth significantly more.

However, these claims have since been confirmed to be false, with no such incident having taken place.

Iwobi’s father, Chuba Iwobi, moved to reassure the public after receiving numerous enquiries about his son’s wellbeing. Speaking to journalist Colin Udoh, he firmly rejected the reports and described them as fabricated.

“Alex is fine, and there was absolutely no attempt to burgle his house,” Chuba Iwobi told journalist Colin Udoh.

“He left for Turkey this morning, preparing for the friendlies. It’s so annoying that a person can actually spread such falsehoods just for a few clicks.

“Calls and enquiries from well-wishers have inundated me, and I have spent unnecessary time explaining that this is a made-up story.”

The rumours had caused concern among fans and observers, particularly given the detailed nature of the claims, which included descriptions of an armed confrontation and significant financial losses. Despite this, there has been no evidence to support the reports.

Alex Iwobi, who plays for Fulham in the English Premier League, has been an important figure for the club this season. His performances have contributed to Fulham’s current position of ninth in the league standings, as they continue to push for qualification for European competition.

Off the pitch, the midfielder has also received recognition for his influence. He was recently named on the Football Black List, alongside players such as Jess Carter and Eberechi Eze, highlighting his impact beyond the game itself.
