Victor Osimhen has undergone successful surgery after suffering a fractured right forearm during Galatasaray S.K.’s heavy defeat to Liverpool F.C. in the UEFA Champions League.
The injury occurred in the first half of the Round of 16 second-leg tie at Anfield, when Osimhen was involved in a mid-air collision with Ibrahima Konaté. The Liverpool defender landed on the striker’s arm, resulting in the fracture.
Despite the injury, Osimhen continued playing until half-time before being substituted.
Galatasaray confirmed in a statement that the operation was carried out at Maslak Acıbadem Hospital by the club’s doctor, Yener İnce, following initial medical assessments and X-rays.
The Nigeria international had returned home ahead of the procedure, where he completed preparations for surgery. During his recovery period, he revealed that Konaté had contacted him after the match to check on his condition.
Osimhen is expected to be sidelined for several weeks. He has indicated that the injury will require approximately four weeks to heal, followed by an additional two weeks to regain full match fitness.
The setback comes at a time when the striker had been in strong form for his club. Prior to the injury, he had scored 19 goals and provided seven assists in 29 appearances across all competitions. His contributions included seven goals in the Champions League, underlining his importance to the team’s attacking play.
His absence is likely to be a blow for Galatasaray as they continue their campaign, with the forward having been one of their standout performers this season.
Further updates on his recovery are expected in the coming weeks, as the club monitors his rehabilitation and progress back to full fitness.
