Botswana defensive midfielder Gape Edwin Mohutsiwa has joined Moroccan side Ittihad Tanger on a free transfer from MC Oran. The 29-year-old has signed a contract with the Botola Pro Inwi club running until 30 June 2028.
Mohutsiwa moves to Morocco after several seasons in Algeria, where he built a reputation as a reliable presence in the centre of the pitch. He arrives in Tangier with significant top-flight experience, having made 77 league appearances in Algeria’s Ligue 1 and featured regularly in continental competition.
The Serowe-born midfielder, who stands at 1.80m and is right-footed, spent last season with MC Oran after previously joining them from ASO Chlef, also on a free transfer. His switch to North Africa initially came in 2022 when he left Jwaneng to sign for Chlef, where he went on to win the Algerian Cup in the 2022-23 season.
That cup success was complemented by regular outings on the continental stage, with Mohutsiwa making appearances in both the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup during his time in Algeria. Across those campaigns he accumulated more than 1,600 minutes in African club competitions, underlining his experience beyond domestic football.
Before moving to Algeria, Mohutsiwa’s career took shape in Botswana with Motlakase, Township Rollers and Jwaneng, where his performances earned him a move abroad. His current market valuation stands at around €250,000.
Mohutsiwa now begins a new chapter with Ittihad Tanger, committing to the Moroccan club on a long-term deal until the summer of 2028.
