Genoa have strengthened their midfield with the signing of Ivory Coast international Hamed Traoré on a season-long loan from Marseille ahead of the 2026/27 Serie A campaign.
The agreement includes an option for the Italian club to make the move permanent next summer if the midfielder impresses during his spell at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.
Fresh start in familiar surroundings
Traoré joined Marseille from Bournemouth last year in a deal worth around €7.7 million, arriving with an impressive reputation built during spells in both Serie A and the Premier League.
However, his debut season in France proved challenging, with injuries and fierce competition limiting him to just 19 appearances in all competitions.
Despite his limited game time, the 26-year-old still contributed three goals and two assists, showing flashes of the quality that previously made him one of the most highly rated midfielders in Serie A.
Return to Serie A
A move back to Italy now offers Traoré the opportunity to revive his career in a league where he previously excelled.
Genoa believe the Ivorian midfielder can provide creativity, energy and attacking quality in the middle of the park as they prepare for the new season.
Known for his dribbling ability, progressive passing and eye for goal, Traoré is expected to add another dimension to Genoa’s midfield and strengthen their attacking play.
Ready for the new campaign
Traoré will join his new teammates immediately and take part in Genoa’s pre-season preparations as the club builds towards the start of the 2026/27 Serie A season.
The loan move gives the Ivory Coast international the chance to rediscover his best form, while Genoa will hope his experience in Italy and England can help the club enjoy a successful campaign.
Should he make the expected impact, Genoa have the option to turn the temporary switch into a permanent transfer at the end of the season.
