Al Ahly to hold talks with Zizo over contract as salary concerns emerge

Al Ahly are reportedly preparing to hold discussions with Ahmed Mostafa Zizo and his father over the player’s contract after concerns emerged regarding his salary following a disappointing first season with the Egyptian giants.

The update was revealed by Egyptian media personality Ahmed Shobeir, who said the winger has struggled to meet expectations since joining Al Ahly from rivals Zamalek.

Shobeir highlights difficult first season

Speaking on his radio programme Ma’a Shobeir on On Sport FM, Shobeir said Zizo has not enjoyed the impact many anticipated after his high-profile move.

“Zizo is not living his best days with Al Ahly,” Shobeir said.

“He arrived from Zamalek as one of the biggest stars in Egyptian football, but his first season was not what he or the supporters expected, especially after the team missed out on most of the trophies, apart from the Egyptian Super Cup.”

Al Ahly considering salary adjustment

According to Shobeir, Al Ahly initially had no concerns over the financial package offered to Zizo, with the club reportedly recovering much of the cost through commercial and sponsorship revenues.

However, he claimed the club has since introduced a stricter wage structure aimed at controlling salaries across the first-team squad.

Shobeir said Al Ahly officials are expected to meet the player and his father in the coming weeks to discuss the possibility of reducing the value of his contract.

Father’s response expected

Shobeir believes Zizo’s father is unlikely to agree to any reduction, arguing that the contract was negotiated and signed by both parties.

“I expect Zizo’s father’s position to be very clear,” he said.

“He will say there is a valid contract agreed between both parties and there is no reason for them to accept a salary reduction.”

Despite that, Shobeir suggested Al Ahly intend to maintain open dialogue with the player’s representatives in an attempt to find a solution acceptable to both sides.

Discussions still ongoing

The broadcaster concluded by saying the issue remains unresolved and that the forthcoming meeting between Al Ahly officials and Zizo’s father will be important in determining how the situation develops.

No official statement has been issued by Al Ahly or the player regarding the reported discussions.
