Former Ivory Coast and Manchester City midfielder Yaya Touré has officially begun a new chapter in his football career after being appointed head coach of Slovak champions Slovan Bratislava.
The 43-year-old confirmed the news in a message to supporters, expressing his excitement at taking charge of the club and outlining his ambition for the future.
“Proud to be appointed Head Coach of @SKSlovan,” Touré wrote on X.
“I’m looking forward to working with the players, staff and leadership as we begin this new chapter together.
“To the fans – we are together in our mission and you will be central in our success.
“Let’s get to work!”
The appointment marks Touré’s first senior managerial position after spending several years building experience in coaching roles across Europe and the Middle East.
Widely regarded as one of Africa’s greatest footballers, Touré enjoyed a glittering playing career with Barcelona and Manchester City, winning multiple domestic league titles as well as the UEFA Champions League. He also claimed four consecutive African Footballer of the Year awards between 2011 and 2014.
Since retiring from playing, the former midfielder has worked in a variety of coaching environments as he prepared for a move into management.
His latest challenge comes with Slovan Bratislava, a club that has dominated Slovak football in recent seasons and regularly competes in UEFA competitions.
Touré now faces the task of translating his success on the pitch into achievements from the dugout as he begins what could be one of the most significant chapters of his football journey.
