Cameroonian keeper André Onana confirms Trabzonspor departure

Cameroonian goalkeeper André Onana has confirmed he will leave Turkish side Trabzonspor after just one season, bringing an end to a short but eventful spell that ended with silverware and a return to form for the 30-year-old.

Onana announced his departure via social media shortly after Trabzonspor lifted the Turkish Cup, marking what he described as a completed mission in Turkey.

His exit now opens the door to a new chapter in a career that has taken him across Europe’s top leagues.

The former Inter Milan and Manchester United goalkeeper spent the season rebuilding his reputation after a difficult period in England, where his form and consistency came under heavy scrutiny.

In Turkey, however, he found more stability, regular playing time, and a key role within the Trabzonspor squad.

Trabzonspor’s campaign ended on a high note with victory in the Turkish Cup final, a success in which Onana played his part, including a decisive contribution of three saves in the 2-1 win over Konyaspor.

The triumph delivered the club’s 10th Turkish Cup title and added another trophy to the goalkeeper’s personal collection.

Onana, who came through the ranks at Barcelona before rising to prominence in the Netherlands and Italy, described his time at the club in a brief but emotional message shared online.

“Proud to have been part of this family. Mission accomplished. Good luck Trabzonspor.”

His words reflect a short but impactful stay in Turkey, where he managed to restore some momentum to his career after a challenging spell at Manchester United.

Despite criticism in the Premier League, the Cameroon international has continued to attract interest across Europe due to his experience, distribution skills and modern goalkeeping style.

Onana’s departure is expected to fuel speculation about his next destination, although no club has yet been confirmed.

Sources suggest that several European sides are monitoring his situation closely as the transfer window approaches.

The goalkeeper remains under contract at Manchester United until June 2028, although his long-term future away from Old Trafford now appears increasingly likely following his loan exit and successful stint in Turkey.

His current market value is estimated at around €12 million, reflecting a decline from previous peaks.
