Mohamed Salah has confirmed he will wait until after the 2026 FIFA World Cup before making a final decision regarding the next stage of his career following his emotional departure from Liverpool FC.
The Egyptian captain played his final match for Liverpool in Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Brentford FC, bringing an end to a remarkable nine-year spell at Anfield.
Speaking to beIN SPORTS after the match, Salah reflected on his achievements with the Reds and the emotional weight of his farewell.
“I have achieved everything with Liverpool, and I am proud of what I have accomplished. I feel that I have restored the club to the position it deserves among the elite,” Salah said.
The forward admitted leaving the club was psychologically difficult after nearly a decade on Merseyside.
“My last day was very difficult psychologically. This is a place where I spent nine years. I spent my youth here, and when I look back, I find that I did everything I wanted,” he added.
Salah revealed that his immediate focus is now on representing Egypt national football team at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where the Pharaohs have been drawn alongside Belgium national football team, New Zealand national football team and Iran national football team.
“I will see after the World Cup. If a good offer comes before the World Cup, I will discuss it. Otherwise, I will wait until the end of the World Cup to decide on my next step,” Salah explained.
The 33-year-old has recently been linked with interest from clubs in Italy, Turkey and Saudi Arabia ahead of the summer transfer window.
Salah also used the opportunity to encourage more Egyptian players to pursue careers in European football, stressing the importance of discipline and sacrifice.
“I hope that many Egyptian players will turn professional and achieve the same accomplishments. I feel that I have opened the door for many. We have many talents in Egypt who need the opportunity, provided they work hard and make sacrifices,” he concluded.
