From Cairo to Hungary: ZED academy player chases European dream

A promising young player from ZED FC has taken an important step in his football career after travelling to Hungary for a training and evaluation period with ETO FC Győr.

Omar Ahmed Mohamed, who was born in 2008, has left Cairo to begin a trial spell with the Hungarian side as he looks to gain experience in European football at an early stage of his development.

According to information obtained by Yalla Kora from its sources, all arrangements connected to the move were finalised before the player departed for Hungary on Sunday to join ETO for the temporary training period.

The winger, who operates primarily on the left side of attack, is regarded as one of the emerging talents within ZED’s youth system and hopes the opportunity abroad will help him improve technically and gain exposure to a different football environment.

The move represents another example of young Egyptian players seeking development opportunities outside the country in an effort to build professional careers at a higher competitive level.

Although the trip is currently limited to a trial period, the experience could potentially open the door for a longer-term agreement if the Hungarian club decides to pursue a permanent arrangement.

Sources indicated that Omar Ahmed Mohamed is expected to remain in Hungary until 7 June before returning to Egypt at the conclusion of the evaluation programme.

Should ETO decide they want the player to continue with the club beyond the trial stage, negotiations would then begin with ZED FC regarding the future of the youngster.

The process surrounding the player’s move appears to have been handled formally between the two clubs. According to the information available, the Hungarian side submitted an official request for the player’s services through email communication before the arrangements were completed.

The opportunity is considered an important moment in the teenager’s early football journey, particularly given the growing interest among European clubs in identifying and developing young talent from outside the continent’s traditional football markets.

For ZED FC, the move also highlights the club’s ambition to develop players capable of attracting international attention.

The Cairo-based club has increasingly focused on youth development in recent years, aiming to provide pathways for talented players to progress into professional football both domestically and abroad.

While Omar Ahmed Mohamed’s immediate future remains uncertain until the end of the trial, the experience itself is likely to provide valuable exposure to a different style of training and competition.

Adapting to football in Europe often presents both technical and physical challenges for young players, but it can also offer significant opportunities for growth, particularly for attacking players seeking to improve tactical awareness, pace and decision-making.

The winger now faces a crucial few weeks as he attempts to impress the coaching staff at ETO and demonstrate his ability to adapt to the demands of European football.

Whether the trial ultimately results in a permanent move or not, the experience marks an important milestone for the young player as he attempts to build a professional career beyond Egypt.

For now, Omar Ahmed Mohamed’s focus will remain on making the most of the opportunity in Hungary and proving that he can take the next step in his development on the European stage.
