Mamelodi Sundowns FC are expected to host USM Alger in the 2026 CAF Super Cup following both clubs’ triumphs in African competition this season.
According to WinWin sources, the match is scheduled to take place in October 2026 at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria, South Africa, although an official announcement from the Confederation of African Football has yet to be made.
CAF regulations stipulate that the African Super Cup is staged at the home ground of the reigning CAF Champions League winners, placing Sundowns in position to host the fixture after securing continental glory earlier this month.
The South African side claimed their second CAF Champions League title on Sunday, 24 May, after overcoming Moroccan club AS FAR in the final.
Sundowns entered the second leg with a narrow advantage after winning the first match 1-0 at home. A 1-1 draw in Morocco at the Royal Army Stadium proved enough to secure a 2-1 aggregate victory and crown the Pretoria-based side African champions once again.
Their latest success further strengthened the club’s growing reputation as one of the dominant forces in African football.
Sundowns will now attempt to win the African Super Cup for a second time in their history. Their only previous triumph in the competition came in 2017 when they defeated TP Mazembe.
The club’s latest Champions League victory also increased its tally of continental trophies to four. Sundowns have now won the CAF Champions League twice, in 2016 and 2026, along with one CAF Super Cup and one African League title in 2023.
Domestically, the club remains one of the most successful teams in South African football history. Sundowns hold the record for the highest number of South African league titles with 18 championships, while also winning the South African Cup six times and the League Cup on four occasions.
Their opponents, USM Alger, arrive in the Super Cup after another successful continental campaign of their own.
The Algerian club secured the CAF Confederation Cup title on 16 May after defeating Zamalek SC in a dramatic final decided by penalties.
Both sides won their home matches 1-0 across the two legs, forcing a shootout after the aggregate score ended level. USM Alger eventually prevailed 8-7 on penalties to lift the trophy for the second time in the club’s history.
The achievement further enhanced the club’s standing in African football, with USM Alger increasingly viewed as one of Algeria’s leading continental representatives.
Over the past four years, the club has collected three African titles, including two Confederation Cup victories in 2023 and 2026, as well as the CAF Super Cup in 2023.
USM Alger also reached the CAF Champions League final in 2015 but were defeated by TP Mazembe.
The club remains one of Algeria’s oldest and most decorated football institutions, winning eight Algerian league titles, ten Algerian Cups and two Algerian Super Cups. They also lifted the Arab Club Champions Cup in 2013.
The upcoming African Super Cup therefore brings together two of the continent’s most successful recent sides, each seeking to add another international trophy to an already impressive collection.
