Lusail SC open advanced talks to sign Morocco captain Romain Saïss

Romain Saïss is reportedly closing in on a departure from Al Sadd SC after newly promoted Lusail SC opened advanced negotiations with the experienced defender ahead of the summer transfer window.

Lusail, who are preparing for their first season in the Qatar Stars League, are understood to view the Morocco international as a key figure in their new sporting project.

Club officials reportedly believe Romain Saïss can provide leadership, defensive organisation and top-level experience as the team prepares for what is expected to be a difficult campaign in the top flight.

According to reports, Lusail have already presented the defender with a one-year contract offer that includes the option of an additional season.

The proposed deal is believed to include an annual salary worth around $1.2 million net, in addition to bonuses tied to appearances and sporting objectives.

The timing of the move could favour Lusail, with Saïss approaching the end of his current contract at Al Sadd SC.

His deal is set to expire in June, and there have reportedly been no concrete discussions over a renewal, potentially allowing the Moroccan defender to leave on a free transfer.

Despite being 35 years old, Romain Saïss continues to command respect across Gulf football because of his leadership qualities and extensive experience at both club and international level.

The former Morocco captain built much of his reputation through successful spells in England and Turkey before moving to Qatar.

Lusail’s hierarchy reportedly believe his experience and personality could prove crucial as the club aims to establish itself in the Qatar Stars League and avoid an immediate return to the second division.

While negotiations are progressing, reports suggest other clubs in the region are also monitoring the situation closely ahead of the transfer window.

With his contract nearing its conclusion, Saïss is now free to discuss future opportunities as uncertainty continues over his long-term future in Qatar.
