48 nations set to discover AFCON 2027 qualifying path on Tuesday

The draw for the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations ( PAMOJA AFCON 2027) qualifiers will take place in Cairo, Egypt on Tuesday, 19 May, as 48 nations discover their routes to the continental finals.

The ceremony, scheduled for 12h00 GMT at the headquarters of the Egyptian Football Association, will determine the 12 qualifying groups for the tournament, which will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.

The 2027 edition marks the return of the Africa Cup of Nations to East Africa for the first time in 51 years, with the finals set to run from 19 June to 17 July 2027.

African football legends Max-Alain Gradel, William Troost-Ekong, Essam El Hadary and Trésor Mputu will assist with the draw ceremony.

The 48 participating nations have been divided into four pots based on the latest FIFA rankings. Pot 1 features continental heavyweights including Morocco, Senegal, Nigeria, Egypt and defending African champions Côte d’Ivoire.

Pot 2 includes rising forces such as Cape Verde, Ghana and Zambia, while co-hosts Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda are placed across Pots 2 and 3.

The qualifiers will produce 24 teams for the finals, with the three co-host nations already guaranteed places at the tournament.
