Zlatko Dalic says the UAE are ready to face Saudi Arabia in Tuesday’s Gulf Cup final at the Alinma Stadium in Jeddah, describing the match as the “easiest” mentally for his players because it is the final game of the tournament.
Speaking at a news conference broadcast by Abu Dhabi Sports TV, the UAE manager thanked supporters for the backing he has received personally.
“I am extremely happy with the support I have received, and I thank the UAE fans for their tremendous support,” said Dalic.
The Croatian added that his long association with the country had made it especially important to him.
“I lived in the UAE for many years, and the UAE is as dear to my heart as Croatia,” he said.
Dalic said his experience would help him give his best to the national team, with winning the Gulf Cup now his principal objective.
“I have the experience to offer my best for the UAE national team. My goal now is to win the Gulf Cup with The Whites and to keep achieving victories with the team,” he said.
The coach confirmed that his staff had been working to address weaknesses and make the necessary changes before the final, despite having little time to prepare.
He believes the occasion should make the mental challenge more manageable for his players.
“I want the players to enjoy themselves and play in the best possible way because this is the last match in the Gulf Cup and it has a special character,” said Dalic. “I hope we can produce an entertaining game for the fans.”
Dalic acknowledged the scale of the task facing the UAE, praising Saudi Arabia as the strongest side in the competition. He also highlighted their defensive record and home advantage.
“We will face Saudi Arabia, the best team in the tournament. They have kept clean sheets and have the advantage of playing at home and in their own stadium,” he said.
“This is a difficult challenge for us, but we are ready and our target is the title.”
UAE goalkeeper Khalid Eisa said support from his country’s fans would provide the team with its main source of motivation in the final.
“We thank the Saudi people for their warm welcome,” said Eisa. “I expect a match with a great deal of competitiveness, and I hope tomorrow’s game will be the moment when UAE football reaps its rewards.”
Eisa also praised Dalic’s approach to managing the squad, saying the coach understood the players’ needs beyond their work on the pitch.
“Dalic is an outstanding manager and has a smooth style,” said Eisa. “He understands what you need as a person before you are a player, so that you can give your best on the pitch.”
