Moroccan winger shines for Al-Ittihad while competition intensifies among top creators
The Libyan Premier League is witnessing a closely contested battle for creative supremacy this season, with Nawfal Zerhouni emerging as the leading assist provider after 14 rounds of competition.
The Moroccan winger, who plays for Al-Ittihad Club, has established himself as a key figure in the league, underlining his reputation as one of the most influential playmakers currently active in Libyan football.
Rapid Impact Since Arrival
Zerhouni, 30, joined Al-Ittihad in February 2025 from Raja Casablanca and made an immediate impression. His performances quickly earned recognition, including the award for best professional player in the league last season.
Since then, he has continued to deliver consistently, becoming central to his team’s attacking output. His ability to create chances and influence matches has positioned him at the forefront of the league’s assist rankings.
Leading the Creative Charts
After just nine appearances this season, Zerhouni has registered five assists, the highest tally in the league so far. In addition to his creative contributions, he has scored three goals, bringing his total direct involvement to eight goals.
These numbers highlight his importance to Al-Ittihad, who currently sit at the top of Group B with 32 points. His influence has been a significant factor in the team’s strong campaign as they pursue what would be their 19th league title.
The club is now under the guidance of Rulani Mokwena, whose leadership has coincided with the team’s continued push for domestic success.
Strong Competition From Rivals
Despite Zerhouni’s dominance, the race for assists remains competitive. Weldon Bukoya of Al-Ahli Tripoli has matched his assist tally, also recording five assists across 11 matches, while contributing three goals of his own.
A group of players is close behind, each registering four assists so far this season. These include Saleh Rateb of the Military Sports Union, Ismail Belkacemi of Al-Shumou’, Mahmoud Abu Warda of Al-Tahadi, as well as Abdul Aziz Al-Lassi of Al-Olympi, Mahmoud Zaghdoud of Al-Majd, and Felly Traore of Al-Suwaihli.
This cluster of challengers ensures that the race for the top spot remains open, with the standings likely to shift as the season progresses.
Season of Creativity and Competition
The current campaign has been marked by a high level of attacking creativity, with multiple players contributing significantly to their teams’ offensive play. The assist charts reflect not only individual excellence but also the broader competitiveness of the league.
As the season continues, attention will remain on whether Zerhouni can maintain his lead or if rivals such as Bukoya and others can close the gap.
Battle for Supremacy Continues
With several rounds still to play, the contest for the league’s top playmaker is far from decided. For now, Zerhouni stands at the summit, but the margins are narrow and the pressure is mounting.
The coming weeks are expected to provide further twists in what is shaping up to be one of the most closely fought individual races in the Libyan Premier League this season.
