Zamalek coach Moataz Gamal undergoes back surgery, son confirms

Zamalek head coach Moataz Gamal has undergone surgery to address persistent back pain, with his son Jamal asking supporters to pray for his father’s recovery.

Jamal confirmed the operation in a message posted on his Facebook account, explaining that the procedure was necessary because of the discomfort his father had been experiencing for some time.

The announcement comes as Gamal continues his work with the Egyptian club, which suffered a 2-0 defeat against arch-rivals Al Ahly in the sixth round of the Egyptian Premier League on Sunday.

In his message, Gamal’s son appealed for prayers and expressed hope that his father would recover quickly and regain his health.

He wrote: “I ask you to pray for my father, as he is undergoing urgent surgery to get rid of the back pain he has been suffering from for a while. I ask God to grant him a speedy recovery and complete health and wellness. Do not forget him in your prayers.”

The message provided an update on the Zamalek coach’s medical situation after he had been struggling with back pain that had already affected his availability for a previous fixture.

Back pain had forced Gamal to miss earlier match

Gamal had previously been absent from Zamalek’s match against Zed in the Egyptian Capital Cup because of the same back problem.

His absence from that fixture highlighted the difficulties he had been experiencing before the decision to undergo surgery.

The coach’s condition will now be a concern for Zamalek as the club continues its domestic campaign, although no further details about his recovery period were provided in the announcement.

Gamal’s son did not specify how long the coach would need to recover from the operation or when he might be able to resume his duties with the team.

The immediate focus remains on his recovery following the procedure, with the family asking supporters to keep him in their prayers.

Zamalek suffer derby defeat against Al Ahly

The news of Gamal’s surgery comes after a difficult result for Zamalek, who lost 2-0 to Al Ahly in their latest Egyptian Premier League meeting.

The defeat came in the sixth round of the competition and saw Zamalek beaten by their traditional rivals in one of Egyptian football’s most closely followed fixtures.

The result adds to the club’s immediate challenges as it continues its league campaign, while attention will also be on Gamal’s health following the operation.

For now, the coach’s recovery remains the priority after his son confirmed that he had undergone surgery to address the back pain that had troubled him for an extended period.

The family has asked for prayers for his speedy recovery, with further details about his condition and possible return to work yet to be announced.
