Young Boys unlikely to sign Chris Bedia permanently

Chris Bedia is expected to return to Union Berlin following the end of his loan spell at BSC Young Boys, after reports in Germany suggested the Swiss side are unlikely to activate their purchase option for the striker.

The latest developments represent a shift from earlier indications in March, when Young Boys were reportedly considering making the move permanent for a fee believed to be around €2.5 million.

However, recent reports now suggest the Swiss club have reconsidered their position after missing out on European qualification and deciding to place greater emphasis on striker Samuel Essende, who joined from Augsburg during the winter transfer window.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, Bedia enjoyed an impressive campaign in Switzerland.

The 30-year-old finished the season with 17 goals and ended the campaign as the second-highest scorer in the Swiss league, strengthening his reputation as one of the division’s most productive forwards.

Bedia joined Union Berlin in 2024 but has struggled to establish himself within the Bundesliga club’s long-term plans.

Since arriving in Germany, he has already experienced two separate loan spells, first with Hull City and later with Young Boys.

His current contract with Union Berlin runs until 2027, although it remains unclear whether he will be integrated into the squad for next season or moved on again.

For now, the striker appears set for a return to Köpenick, with Union Berlin still expected to make a decision regarding his long-term future in the coming months.
