Yaya Touré on verge of coaching breakthrough with Slovan Bratislava job

Former Ivory Coast international Yaya Touré is on the verge of becoming the new head coach of Slovakian champions Slovan Bratislava, marking what would be his first appointment as a senior manager in professional football.

An agreement between both parties is close to being finalised, with sources indicating that only formal details remain before an official announcement is made.

The move would see the 43-year-old take charge of one of Slovakia’s most successful clubs, as they look to strengthen their standing in domestic football and maintain their presence in European competition.

Touré, widely regarded as one of Africa’s greatest midfielders during his playing career, has been identified by Slovan Bratislava as a high-profile appointment capable of bringing both experience and international recognition to the club.

The interest in the former Manchester City star is not new, but discussions have accelerated in recent weeks, bringing the deal to an advanced stage.

According to journalist Matteo Moretto, Touré is “on the verge” of taking up the role, underlining how close the appointment is to completion.

If confirmed, this would represent a significant step in Touré’s coaching journey.

Since retiring from professional football in early 2020, he has been gradually building experience in the technical area through assistant roles across different environments.

He previously worked alongside his former Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini as part of the Saudi Arabian national team setup.

He has also served as an assistant coach at Standard Liège and contributed to youth development at Tottenham Hotspur, gaining exposure to different footballing structures across Europe and beyond.

However, the Slovan Bratislava role would be his first as a head coach in charge of a professional senior team, placing him firmly in the spotlight as he begins a new chapter in his football career.

The Slovak champions are understood to view Touré as an ambitious appointment who can bring fresh ideas and international experience to the club.

Slovan, who are regular participants in European competitions, are hoping his arrival will help them take another step forward both domestically and on the continental stage.

Touré’s reputation as a player remains strong across the football world, particularly for his influential spell at Manchester City, where he played a key role in the club’s rise to Premier League dominance.

Now, Slovan Bratislava are betting on that pedigree translating into coaching success as they prepare to entrust him with one of the most important roles in their modern history.

An official confirmation is expected in the coming days, with anticipation building around Touré’s first major managerial appointment.
