Moroccan-French centre-back Yanis Merah has left Qatari side Muaither SC and is now a free agent after bringing his spell in the Qatari Second Division to an end. The 27-year-old, who stands at 1.90m and plays primarily on the right side of central defence, departed the club on 16 July.
Merah had joined Muaither in January 2026 from Al-Sailiya SC, remaining in Qatar after a successful spell with Al-Sailiya that included winning the Qatari Second Division title in the 2024-25 season. His move away from Muaither leaves him available on a free, with his current status listed as without a club.
Born in Lyon and eligible for both Morocco and France, Merah has built a career across France, Morocco and Qatar. He came through the youth system at Troyes, progressing from the academy into ESTAC Troyes B and winning the French Youth Cup with Troyes’ under-19s in 2017-18, before moving to North African side Mouloudia in 2020 on a free transfer.
Merah’s performances in Morocco’s top flight, where he made 45 appearances in the Botola Pro, helped secure his move to Al-Sailiya in August 2023, again on a free transfer. Across his senior career he has featured regularly in league and cup competitions, with more than 3,400 top-flight minutes in Morocco and almost 3,000 minutes in Qatar’s second tier, contributing defensively and chipping in with the occasional goal and assist.
With a current market valuation of €275,000, Merah now leaves Muaither SC and begins the next chapter of his career unattached.
